  • Reflection Question
Waterwise Beautification Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Did you know that our quality of life on earth is tied to a thin layer of topsoil? Natural mulch from plant debris plays a critical role in conserving moisture, preventing erosion, storing groundwater, and helping return nutrients to the soil.

No, I did not know that Natural mulch from plant debris plays a critical role in conserving moisture, preventing erosion, storing groundwater, and helping return nutrients to the soil. I just knew that mulching your trees and plants was good for them but not why mulching was good.

  • Reflection Question
    Waterwise Beautification Plant a Tree
Can you think of a tree in your life that was special to you? How did it inspire you? Is it still there?

A tree that is special to me is a Weeping Cherry tree. Since I was little, we used to have a big weeping cherry tree on our property. Every Spring, it would bloom beautiful pink and white flowers. The Weeping Cherry tree is still there today. We loved that tree so much that when we moved to a new house a few months ago, we really wanted to plant a Weeping Cherry on our property. Until just a few days ago, we bought a small Weeping Cherry tree from a local nursery and had it planted on our property. But there are other trees I like too - White Birch trees and Magnolia trees.

  • Reflection Question
    Waterwise Home Conserve Toilet Water
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    What needs to change?
Understanding the ongoing, global, water crisis will help others put their water usage into perspective. By flushing the toilet each time you go to the bathroom, it uses 12 gallons of water. Instead of flushing, only when necessary.
  • Reflection Question
    Waterwise Beautification Collect Rain Water
Although three-fourths of our planet is covered by water, only a small fraction is suitable for use, and yet growing populations are placing more demands on this finite resource. If you had to collect, store, clean and pump your own water, as earlier generations did, how would that change the way you use it today?

Although three-fourths of our planet is covered by water, only a small fraction is suitable for use, and yet growing populations are placing more demands on this finite resource. If I had to collect, store, clean, and pump my own water, as earlier generations did, It would greatly change the way I use water today. I would be able to understand the value of water by using it the way earlier generations did. Once learning its value, I would try to save every drop of water and try to make sure I don't waste a single drop of water too. I would try to conserve as much water as possible and use it more carefully I would use water only when necessary and try to not waste it. Overall, using water like the earlier generations would teach me its value and make me use water way differently than I use it today.
